When they arrived home, Robert pulled into the garage, and he and Kenya both got out of the SUV and went inside. They still hadn’t said anything else to one another, but now as Kenya set her purse on a chair in the kitchen, Robert gently drew her into his arms and gazed into her eyes.

“Baby, I’m sorry,” he said.

“I’m sorry, too,” she admitted, and Robert kissed her.

Then they both sat across from each other in the kitchen.

“And there’s something else I want you to know as well,” he said. “It’s not that I don’t get why you feel the way you do, because I understand completely. But the other reason I don’t want to have Terri arrested is because if that happens and Bobby finds out, he will hate you and me both for the rest of our lives.”

“Well, you know that’s not what I want, but when you’re dealing with someone who’s as bitter as Terri, you can’t pretend it’s no big deal. You have to take her threats very seriously.”

“I know, and I agree with you one hundred percent, but because of Bobby, I’m hoping it doesn’t come to that. And to be honest, I’m wondering if maybe I should call her to let her know that I’m filing for full custody.”

Kenya was somewhat taken aback. “Why?”

“Because maybe if she realizes what’s about to happen, she’ll decide that cooperating with the judge’s visitation order is far more in her best interests.”

“And you would be okay with that?”

“I would if she agrees to let Bobby spend every other weekend with us, every other holiday, as well as every other Christmas, no matter what the holiday schedule looks like for Terri and me in a given year. And of course, half of the summer. What I want is for her to agree to everything the judge ordered her to do from the very beginning.”

“I don’t know. I still don’t see her saying yes to that, but you do have a point about her possibly agreeing to visitation versus taking a chance on losing custody altogether.”

“Well, even if she doesn’t, I think it’s worth a try. So, I’m going to call William to ask him to hold off on filing the custody motion. At least until we find out one way or the other what Terri is going to do,” he said.

“I agree.”

“And baby,” he said, reaching across the island and grabbing Kenya’s hand, “I also want to say this. From this day forward, let’s not argue about Terri ever again. Not for any reason. Because no matter what happens, you and I are Team Griffin, and nothing will ever change that.”

“You’re right, and yes, let’s not ever do that again,” she told him, all while hoping Terri would come to her senses. Although, the more Kenya sat thinking about everything, something dawned on her. Actually, it was more of an idea she had—an idea that would likely get Terri’s attention much more quickly than the subject of custody.
